Fall is approaching quickly. Before the first frost hits, prepare your landscaping and lawn for cooler temperatures. Boulder Creek Lawn & Landscape is here to help you protect your plants with our handy fall landscaping guide.
In mid-Missouri, it seems like all the leaves fall at once. Be prepared with a yard that is already clean and free of debris. Not only is this good for your lawn, but it is also good for your flower beds and shrubs. Your plants and grass can be suffocated by excess dead leaves so give them the best chance to survive the winter by allowing them to breathe this fall.
If you had any summer casualties, now is the time to clear them from the garden. However, you should not trim or prune healthy plants. Pruning a plant encourages new growth, which may die when the first frost comes around. Instead of trimming, inspect your plants and trees for dead limbs or stems, and remove the problem areas. If a dead tree limb is left to hang in winter, an ice storm or heavy snowfall could bring it crashing down. Be discerning when doing any fall trimming.
If you love lush, tropical plants and don’t want them to freeze in winter, plant them in easy-to-move pots. We recommend putting all potted plants on wheels so they are easier to move inside. For those with pets, make sure you have a space for your plants where your pets can’t get to them. Nothing ruins a beautiful plant quite like a cat gnawing through the stems all winter!
Mulch has so many benefits. It enhances the look of your landscaping, insulates your plants’ roots, retains moisture, and prevents weeds. If your mulch looks dry or was washed away in summer storms, now is the time to bring in a new blanket. At Boulder Creek Lawn & Landscape, we have a variety of mulch options available. Stop by our retail center to pick your mulch. We’ll even deliver and install it for you!
